Wei Baigang, chief economist of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, said on the 28th that in 2022, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs received 236 proposals related to food security. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs analyzed and studied the above proposals one by one, adopted them comprehensively and earnestly, and adopted a series of measures to do a good job in grain production.
Wei Baigang made the above statement at the regular policy briefing of the State Council held by the State Council Information Office on the 28th. The meeting introduced the work of State Council departments handling proposals from deputies to the National People’s Congress and proposals from members of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference in 2022. In 2022, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs will undertake 236 proposals related to food security, mainly including compacting food security responsibilities, increasing policy support for food production, and agricultural disaster prevention and mitigation.
According to reports, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs has tightened the responsibility of the party and the government, actively strives for the central government to further increase support for grain production, and cooperates with relevant departments such as water conservancy, emergency response, and meteorology to do a good job in flood control and drought relief, and stabilize grain production.
Regarding the expansion of soybeans and oilseeds that the representatives are concerned about, Wei Baigang said that in 2022, the country will launch a project to increase the production capacity of soybeans and oilseeds. Through measures such as the promotion of grain-soybean rotation in the Northeast, the annual soybean output will reach 20 million tons for the first time. At the same time, use the southern winter slack fields to promote rice-oil, rice-rice-oil and dry-land rapeseed, and expand rapeseed by 3.9 million mu. Last year, the total output of national oil crops reached 36.53 million tons, and the self-sufficiency rate of edible vegetable oil increased by 1.6 percentage points.
